Where are the best places in Leeds to eat?
If you follow me on Instagram, it’s clear to see I love Leeds, the city I moved to around 6 years ago now.
One of my favourite things to do is visit the amazing range of restaurants the city has to offer. So I have put together a list below of where and why I love that particular restaurant.
Issho – My spot for rooftop drinks, Sushi and special occasions.
Issho – meaning ‘together’ in Japanese – is a contemporary Japanese rooftop restaurant & bar in Leeds’ Victoria Gate. A contemporary Japanese dining destination. Issho is stylish space, open for lunch, dinner & weekend brunch, serving plenty of favourite Japanese dishes.
This is my favourite Japanese restaurant in Leeds. Whenever I have friends visiting from London or other regions, I always take them here as it has such a special and stylish atmosphere.
The food is outstanding and I haven’t had one bad experience there yet * touch wood*. I can be really fussy when it comes to restaurants as im a stickler for bad service putting me off from going again, even if the food is amazing. But Issho has all the boxes ticked!
This venue is perfect for a special occasion, Birthday dinner in Leeds or needing to create a romantic meal in Leeds then this would be a great spot for a special evening.
A great deal that they do for anyone who loves to taste lots of different dishes like myself is.

What to order from Issho?
My favourite dishes are mixing the sushi platters of:
California Roll, Crab Mayo, Avocado, Tobiko
Rainbow Roll, Salmon, Tuna, Ebi & Avocado
Spider Roll, Soft Shell Crab, Wasabi Mayo, Cucumber
Dragon Roll Tiger Prawn Tempura, Avocao & Spicy Mayo
and the Miso Black Cod.
Matt Healy x The Foundry – Evening Dinner / First Date
If you are looking to impress someone special, this place won’t disappoint.
Matt Healy was runner-up in Masterchef in 2016.
The Foundry Wine Bar and Restaurant, part of the award-winning Round Foundry estate of refurbished industrial buildings which provide offices mainly for the creative industries, has steadily built a great reputation in Leeds for its British cooking.
Matt has put his own stamp on the restaurant with a new name, menu, and design for the interior and exterior.
This is a great place to experiment, even with the drinks. Above I went for a Pineapple gin cocktail.
Fresh and crisp, great for a summers evening. The outside bar area is a great sun trap and one of the most unknown outdoor drinking spots in Leeds. So if your standing in the corner at bar and grill waiting for a table to come available for 2 hours, this little-hidden gem is only a walk away from there, with some of the best wines available in Leeds.
We were invited to try the new menu from Matt’s opening, and it really was something special. Sadly not on a sunny day so we headed inside, which was still just as stunning and modern.
They have available parking if you call ahead they will show you to your space.
What to order at Matt Healy x The Foundry
Anthony went for the asparagus and egg starter and chicken Kiev for main, while I held off from ordering a starter and waited for the main, knowing I was about to indulge in a dessert afterwards.
I went for the Lamb Rump.
The lamb was so fresh and cooked to absolute perfection. My only reservations are the portion sizes, as always with fine dining establishments, they always leave you wanting more but I would have loved just a little more with some side dish options to add to the fantastic dish.
San Carlo Flying Pizza – The relaxing with friends over red wine spot
One of my absolute favourites in Leeds, me and Anthony like to call this our local spot, as its just down the road from where we live.
Every day its absolutely packed, lunchtime or evening. Numerous luxury sports cars cover the entrance daily and it really is a regular of whos who faces of Leeds in there. Which just shows how lovely the food is.
I love to eat with family and friends here, it has such a lovely atmosphere and the all Italian staff really make it feel like you have just hopped on a plane to Florence for the afternoon.
The marble aesthetics and beautiful olive trees, really make this a gorgeous spot for a lovely afternoon of great food and company.
What to order from San Carlo?
The Calzone is absolutely huge! Its one of our favourites but its so hard to chose what to have everytime you go, the menu is very detailed and they have a specials menu, which if your a seafood lover like me is just heaven.
See my Instagram story to see some of my favourites highlighted.
It’s hard to choose a favourite as I honestly have never had a single bad meal here and I cant tell you how many times we have been now! The only thing that lets it down at times is service when it’s really busy as they are usually so attentive, when it’s really busy it just feels like any other restaurant as they lose that personal touch that they do so well.
Id avoid Friday nights at the end of the month. We like a Sunday early or late lunchtime or a Thursday evening.
Victoria Gate Casino – Vegas style nights! When the big boxing matches are on you will find me here
If Anthony Joshua fighting, I am at the casino, dressed up and enjoying the electric atmosphere of this vegas style casino.
Anthonys taught me all about roulette even though i lose every single time by putting all my money on zero, it’s really fun and a different night out than just going to a bar or pub to watch some sports. It’s actually fun to go watch in a huge audience of people watching the big screens.
The great thing about it is the restaurant available at the casino.
V Restaurant has an eclectic menu that uses the finest local produce
The intimate dining experience allows you to take a break from the busy casino and sit and enjoy some great food and a few more glasses of wine, before or after enjoying the casino.
What do I order from the Victoria Gate Casino?
I always order the surf and turf. This is the fillet steak but I add the King prawns to the order. Medium rare and always cooked perfectly to how I like it. Last time we had dinner here I couldn’t resist and had the Death by chocolate with ice cream, absolute heaven after a fun night!
