5 years ago I moved back to Leeds after moving to London when I was 18. I had the most amazing years living in the city, but working as a Fashion Stylist just wasn’t paying enough to live a life I wanted. The cost of renting in London was only leaving me with enough money to cover the basics, and my love for travel was on a constant hold. I was 4 hours away from my family and after 4 1/2 years id had enough of the struggle. I moved back to Leeds, where I have been so much happier ever since.
The beauty of my Leeds life is that I can be in London within 2 hours so I make the trip down every month when possible. Last month I headed down for a long weekend and enjoyed an invite from my favourite fragrance house, Creed to celebrate their latest fragrance launch and experience their bespoke fragrance consultation available in their UK Flagship boutique in London.
If you are looking for an exceptionally special Christmas or Birthday gift. Then this could be the ideal gift for him or her.
Creed Fragrance Boutique | 99 Mount Street.
Based in Mayfair, Mount-street is one of the most iconic shopping streets to visit in London (nearest tube, Bond Street). Surrounded by The Connaught and Grosvenor hotels, this street has charm and style.
I was invited to visit the beautiful Creed fragrance boutique on Friday afternoon. They had just launched their new fragrance, Viking that day. This is Creeds first male fragrance for 7 years! and honestly, it was worth the wait.

Although Viking is a male fragrance, I enjoy Creed over all other fragrance houses for its unisex ability. I and Anthony share a lot of fragrances as I am more drawn to Ouds and ambergris scents.
Vikings keynotes are: Calabrian bergamot Sicilian lemon La Reunion baie rose (pink peppercorn)
Heart notes: Peppercorn Bulgarian rose Peppermint
Base notes: Indian Sandalwood Haitian Vetiver Indian Patchouli Lavandin Absolute.
After enjoying a few moments with Viking, which I strangely dressed the part for, in my all red A/W18 look (honestly by clashing mistake) I made my way downstairs to have my bespoke Creed fragrance consultation.

The beautiful scents instantly filled the air as walked down the stairs to this lovely hidden room.
Aesthetically chic with a heritage feel, the room exhibits the history of the fragrance house and where the brand started in a tasteful non-cliche way.
I was met by Claire Slaney, who instantly enhanced the experience with her charming welcome. I knew I was in for an exciting afternoon, filled with fragrance knowledge.
She offered me a glass of Champagne and we took a seat on the sofas. I was instantly drawn to all the luxurious bottles lined up, in various shapes, colours and sizes, all rich in opulent colour.
How many Creed fragrances are there?
I have loved Creed for years but I didn’t realise just how many fragrances they had.
As we sat and chatted over our glasses of Friday afternoon fizz, Claire began to tell me about the heritage of the brand.
Currently, there are 43 fragrances in the line.
Creed was founded in 1760, originally a tailors making leather goods. They moved from making leather to fragrance because they would perfume the leather goods for the ladies as they would use animal urine to tan the leather and would use the fragrance to hide the smell.
Originally Creed was an English family, but now a French family-owned fragrance house by Creed’s master perfumer Olivier and son Erwin Creed. They are now on their 7th generation of perfumers.
They began by making leather goods for the royal family and it was a private fragrance house as opposed to a commercial fragrance house, it was only in the 80s that they became available.
“Cutting corners is not an option for Creed. Aventus for Her used the house’s signature 4,000-year-old infusion technique, a process abandoned by other perfumers as too costly. This protects the integrity of each ingredient without preservatives”. – Telegraph
The best seller and latest female fragrance (my personal favourite) is Aventus for her
“Aventus for Her marks the irresistible feminine counterpart to the legendary Aventus. Inspired by history’s most powerful women – from royalty and visionaries to artists and writers – whilst heralding the strong, modern woman of today.
Opulent and sensual, this fruity floral scent opens with accords of crisp green apple blended with fragrant pink pepper and sparkling Calabrian bergamot. Aventus for Her blossoms into a magnificent floral heart of dewy rose, exotic sandalwood with an irresistible base of amber, ylang ylang and peach”.
When I wear this scent, I instantly feel fresh from the crisp apple notes and I leave the house feeling like I have gained a little extra confidence from the exotic sandalwood and amber.

I shared my love for this fragrance with Claire and how I enjoy that people can tell that I am wearing Aventus for her, instantly if they recognise the scent. It’s not a fragrance similar to anything else available and Claire began to tell me why it is so recognisable to the Creed brand.
Creed signature fragrance note
What is Ambergris?
Also known as liquid gold, Ambergris is formed from a secretion of the bile duct in the intestines of the sperm whale and can be found floating on the sea or washed up on the coast. It is also sometimes found in the abdomens of dead sperm whales. Because the beaks of giant squids have been discovered within lumps of ambergris, scientists have theorized that the substance is produced by the whale’s gastrointestinal tract to ease the passage of hard, sharp objects that it may have eaten. The sperm whale usually vomits these, but if one travels further down the gut, it will be covered in ambergris.
Sounds disgusting right? But that’s the most bizarre part of creating a fragrance, it’s usually the oddest and disgusting raw material that creates the most amazing scents.
Why Creed? & Will it keep its exclusivity if everyone wants to wear it?
I asked Claire if Creeds success with Aventus and Aventus for her was the start of Creed becoming a household name.
“That’s such an interesting question and one that we’ve discussed continually with our owner.
I think it depends on what they mean by exclusivity? Because it’s available in most top department stores – therefore being available to buy for anyone. If they mean exclusively- as in price – then the price is based upon the experience raw materials and the lengthy traditional process.
However..if the question is ‘Does Creed want to remain Niche’?
To which u would say…Yes it’s a very niche brand.
As it is Family run, and is not dictated by investors.
It doesn’t follow Perfume trends and it uses traditional methods.
Each bottle is filled by hand. No machines are used to make sure that special touch and tradition is kept in each bottle.
Choosing the right Creed
We began to explore some other fragrances from the collection that I hadn’t had the pleasure of meeting yet. Claire ran through each fragrance she picked out for me and explained the notes used.
After my visit to Dubai this year, I am really drawn to Ouds and more unisex scents rather than floral or powdery scents. We narrowed it down from these 9 fragrances to 3. I was drawn to the summery scent of Virgin Island Water (ultimate holiday fragrance) and the fruity/Vanilla musky Oud of Royal Princess Oud
But after much consideration (as I am the most indecisive person)
I went with Claire’s wild-card suggestion for me.
Love in Black
I fell in love instantly with its dark powdery, Violet notes and the fact it was something completely different for me.
I would never have picked this unless Claire would have suggested this to me, its such a usual scent of Palma violets sweets mixed with woods and tonka beans.
Love in Black is an endless length of black velvet strewn with Parma violets: both the opulent musky purple flowers and the rare tender white blossoms.
Blackcurrant buds and clove cut through the floral sweetness with a sharp peppery note which develops into the luxurious powderiness of costly Florentine iris blended with rose. The base is a rich melange of woods, tonka and aromatic resins. A superb tribute to a proud and confident femininity.
Fragrance Facts and Tips from Creed
- Put your fragrance on, warm damp skin. This will last longer on the skin as the pores are more open. After the shower or bath is perfect, once your towel dried. This is why perfume smells amazing on holiday or in warmer climates.
- A fragrance can give people an opinion of you and leave a lasting memory associated with that scent, that’s why finding a niche fragrance for you is so important.
- Musk a well known raw material used in fragrance is actually a name originally given to a substance with a penetrating odour obtained from a gland of the male musk deer and is now synthetically created.
